Amazes me that people think simply stopping alcohol will make you have a great life, you need to find hobbies, spend time with friends and family etc.. What is the ultimate power trip for you? I personally feel that the ultimate power trip is self-control, and it’s sobriety sucks something you can experience every day, multiple times a day. You can have total control over substances, but that’s providing you have the self-control to NOT put a substance into your bloodstream. The only time you become powerless to a substance is AFTER you’ve willingly ingested it. I give an example by comparing laxatives to alcohol.
Sobriety doesn’t solve your problems.

I still fuck-up plenty of things, but at least I’m sober when I make those mistakes. It was not the organization of AA authorizing this type of treatment, it was the people attending who were saying this to me and to others.
How do you get better in sobriety if you have no idea where to start?
I have put actual dates on the Journal Entries because I want to share with you all of the changes and different stages of my thinking during my sobering up. Some of the stages are sad, some are painful, some are angry, some are downright funny. I have not gone back to change what I wrote – I want you to understand that if you are going to start living sober your mind will also go through changes and stages. I’ve been sober for 2 years now and all I can say is life SUCKS! I’ve been going to therapy and getting various help with medication since my first week sober, but nothing has helped. I went to AA, got a sponsor, got a counselor, and now take a handful of pills every day for depression and anxiety, but it’s all crap. I may have had problems with my drinking, but I miss that life more and more every day.
Much of our social behaviors involve the use of substances in one form or another. Even if you’re not an addict, living a sober lifestyle can seem like a difficult feat. I believe that the title «Alcoholic» is overused as well as misused. Someone does not have to be clinically deemed an alcoholic to have problems in their life due to drinking. Sometimes people want to belong to this exclusive group to gain sympathy or attention, so they call themselves an alcoholic. Or they like holding this title so others will show them compassion and forgive their behavior.

I hear from a lot of people who feel the same way. And even though I illogically feel that it still sucks, I know for certain that my life is factually far better as a non-drinker. I hope you find this podcast interesting. He goes from pretending he doesn’t care what other people think of him to actually not caring what other people think of him. He lets you put dumb butterfly clips in his hair because you think he’d look cute, he doesn’t fight you he just lets it happen.
You have the power to make changes that will improve your life, make sobriety more interesting, and connect with awesome people who can help you enjoy your life in recovery. Now when I read old blog posts, I realize how pompous I sounded at times. I was preaching the lifestyle of sobriety and leading online sober groups without truly grasping the concept of recovery. My heart was in the right place, but I was speaking too soon about something I barely understood. You can also follow folks on social media who are actively posting about what it’s like to live through addiction and recovery. By acquainting yourself with their stories, you can start to understand what it’s like to live through and recover from a traumatic experience with addiction. I still remember the first time I actually got drunk.

My past relapses were fueled in large part by sobriety’s inability to solve my problems for me. Instead of reaching out for help, giving AA a shot, or opening up to friends and family, I tried to Google my way to emotional stability.

Have you ever woken up unable to remember what happened the night before? Even if you don’t tend to black out under the influence, alcohol and drugs can make your memory foggy and unreliable. When you’re sober, you’ll feel sharper and more alert, and you’ll remember things better. Being sober can be a scary prospect.
I believe that people don’t really want to quit drinking. What they REALLY WANT are the results of living sober. We all want results without having to do a lot of work. Wanting the most and the best with the least amount of effort put forth is thinking in terms of efficiency. This podcast will give you ideas on how to rearrange your words so you have reasons for quitting drinking. I wouldn’t recommend this to someone struggling with substance use disorder. I only recommend this to Sober Tourists.
